Never hunted there sorry. Apparently there are quite a few in there. You should be able to glass the tops . I dont think there is much beech forest to stalk through so glassing may be your best bet?
There are a few little pockets of native bush scattered through out pine trees that hold a good number of deer, the pines are owned and administered by earnslaw one and balloted as a block (popular with pig hunters). There are plenty of forestry roads to give you access to the native gullies, be warned some of the gullies are regenerating bush and can be extremely thick. Access is via the forestry gate located at the black gully end of the block, good huts to stay in at black gully (can't remember contact details for the caretaker). If you have a quad, one is extremely helpful hunting this block as you can get that little bit further up the mountain than with a 4x4.
The weather has been a lottery here at the moment but hopefully by next month it may have settled down a bit. As with most hunting areas the best time to hunt the tops is early morning or late evening, although I have seen a shot deer at midday on the tops above this block.
One last note, at the far end of the block there are trail cameras set up to catch anyone heading for the easy deer on the farm land, so unless you want mr plod waiting for you at the forestry gate, the farm land would be best avoided.
thanks for the info guys that was kind of the general plan: get up early, find a good spot and glass haha dont want easy deer, thats no fun! cheers
