shit that's cool man
That IS awesome.
That dude has some serious time on his hands but I guess its less than it takes to pay off an Auckland mortgage.
Also, I'm really jealous of that stone axe he had ! I don't know if we've got any rock like that in NZ.
I prefer something with more mozzie mesh.
awesome
Good Skills that man!

Given out wet bush, I think you would benefit from digging a trench around it to give a raised floor effect and keep water out
I have used a small garden shed before as a bivvy, collapsed into panels can be a bitch to get to the location though.

Looks like I better bring a chainsaw with me and tidy up those end bits - Nah, still too bloody cold down there for me :omg:
My mate (in the pic) built this one about half way up Takapari Ridge (Pohangina) in the late 50s - but after the road went in we just camped beside the car a bit further up in the leatherwood

Made a giant bivy with a truck curtain main log through the middle high up an ropes of that fire place with mesh grill corogted iron for a chimney/trout smoker
Went wth ropes so I can lower it down to prevent snow build up
