5 years ago we walked into reasonably remote and used bugger all hut in the Ruahines, my self and two other forum members.
I woke during the night to what was footsteps walking around on the deck out side this old NZFS hut, this sure as shit wasnt no possum,
I lay awake with a funny sort of feeling wondering if i should wake the other lads up pretending I wasn't packing bricks, they were closer to the door than me so I figured i was would be safer
Next day on the slog out i thought fuck it ill tell em what I heard they will pay me out but who cares....
They were both awake and both heard the same thing...cant explain it and fucked if im ever going back there.

But for the rest of it, yeah, some people just aren't wired for it. But they generally dont "feel a great disturbance in the force". So less wear and tear on the soul.
Some people can use a bit of wire or branch to find water, and some cant.
Just wondering if there's a correlation with this subject.

OK. Yep . Big picture, yes there is a correlation.

Its a huge subject, if it's unpacked fully.

Yep, for whatever it's worth, I believe that. Never had the privilege of an encounter like that. But to me that's authentic.

My old man was a most competent water diviner. I can do it too, but my ‘force’ though uncontrollable is nowhere near as strong as I witnessed with Dad.

We did a science class experiment at school with the water divining rods. Divided class into two groups and see if both came up with the same map independently of each other. Yes it was accurate to within a meter. There was one guy in my group that had a strong dose of the ability. The rods would actually start shaking in his hands before they swung.

There's probably heaps of stuff we have either lost the ability to understand or never had the knowledge to begin with, im sure that not every experience we have that may seem paranormal is necessarily so and the mind can most definitely lead us down the garden path a bit.
One "spooky story" that really stuck with me for a reason I can't explain other than the person who told it to me being a very straight shooter came from one of my old bosses when I was a bit younger. He actually grew up in Sydney and told me that when he was a lot younger he and his mates were going somewhere one evening when they rounded a bend and found a vehicle that had run off the road and rolled, the single occupant was dead at the wheel. They didn't have cellphones back then so decided to find the nearest house and ask to use the phone to call it in. When they looked in the car he noticed a nice pocket knife sitting in floor well and as his mates turned to return to their own car he reached in and slipped it in his pocket and took it without telling the others. He had it for years and said at times he felt guilty about it but felt that since he now was in possession of it then the least he could do to ease his guilt was to look after it and he carried it nearly all of the time.
Fast forward quite a few years and hes in New Zealand farming and he said he was out doing some fencing one day and had the pocket knife in his shirt pocket and at one stage as he leaned forward it slipped from his pocket and hit the dirt in front of him, he reached for it and said it was hard to explain but he saw it hit the ground, his hand reached for it but it wasn't there, it was as if at the moment his hand obscured his view of it to pick it up it vanished. This fella was real straight up and down and matter of fact about most things so it was a bit strange to hear him say "he took it back"
He had no way to explain it.
I struggled heaps with scaring the shit out of myself as a young fella with all things spooky, ufos etc so have tried to keep a mind set that there is always a rational explanation for most things including things I've seen or felt that did not make sense to me at the time and sometimes that rational explanation is that the mind is being irrational in its quest for an answer right now.

I can't do the willow stick thing but give me two bits of wire 6" or more in length and I can find water or power lines under ground easy enough..

Along similar lines is "that feeling" you get when hunting and just have to peer over edge of gully....don't know why just gut says to..and there are animals there.we pick up vibes without knowing it,we subconsciously see, hear, smell stuff and that microprocessor inside us sometimes comes up with ideas we feel urge to follow.... As for big fella upstairs, fairy at bottom of garden.thats a personal thing.somedays I'm on top of the world others down in dumps without logical reason but can shake it off by ...well... Telling Boogie man to piss off.

I think a lot of it is to do with the ‘microprocessor’ thing. About 20 years ago, I was walking up the main street of Motueka. A long way from home, as I was living in Hamilton at the time, and this was my second ever trip to the South Island. I started thinking about a mate who I hadn’t seen for about two or three years, since he had left Hamilton, of all things I was wondering how his vehicle was going and if he was still paying large sums of money to keep it on the road. It was probably the first time in 12-18 months I had paid any thought to this person.
About a minute later, at the next side street, he yelled out to me from where he was parked. Turned out he had driven past me and seen me walking, and I must have seen him but not seen him. But whatever happened (maybe I heard a familiar sounding vehicle) must have been just enough to remind me of him.

I think this is why we sometimes know there is a deer in that gully, but we can’t say why. Whatever it is, is just enough to tell us the deer is there, without the conscious brain knowing the actual trigger.

On another note, and plenty of us will have witnessed this phenomenon.

In a former life, I used to work long and variable hours 10-12 per day. In the last two hours of most days, it would be hard to predict when the day would finish, you never knew if the boss would add ‘just one more little job’. I would be getting texts from my girlfriend at the time asking when I would be home, these would go unanswered because I was busy and I didn’t know the answer.

One day she had a big whinge about it and said she felt inferior to my dog, which would always go out to wait at the gate 15-20 minutes before I got home, it didn’t matter if I was getting home at 5pm or 6pm, the dog knew and she didn’t.

Sometimes if I was travelling somewhere or something, I would leave him with the parents for a week or so. They would tell me, on the day he was due to be picked up, he knew, and would wait on the driveway all day. Somehow some dogs just know, and we can’t explain that one.

Reminds me of the Veery birds in North America (I think) they can pick up on major storms and predict the intensity of hurricane seasons months in advance and will leave for their annual migration early accordingly.

Even with all our science, modelling and knowledge these birds are still far more accurate at predicting storms than humans, and last I heard no one knew how they were able to do it.

Theres a place on Stewart Is that I have experienced similar things. Always after dark and in the same area. So much so that to this day I won't go through that area after dark and prefer to go around the long way. Its a well known and used area at Masons Bay that had in the past burials [pre European] and also some drownings. Ive also seen UFOs and as youngsters played with an Ouija board with frightening results. And yes I can Divine water and power cables etc.

I use the two bits of wire to locate water lines at work most days .

I dont claim to be foolproof but 60% of the time Im right 80% of the time - no matter what the official map says
