Canterbury high country pigs ?

Im off to the Canterbury high country tomorrow afternoon for four days hunting.
I expect its going to be nice and cold.

There will be deer around but I have knocked over plenty lately so Im going to be especially looking for some wild pigs.
Now Im really a high alpine guy and pig hunting is not my strongest hunting skill.
But I will have access to a large high country station with lots of river terraces and I expect plenty of matagauri and other prickly things.
Most of the river flats are 700 to 900 m ASL broken beech forest slopes to open tussoch and shingle tops.
I do have a deer pointing dog but she won't be with me on this trip.

So my question to you more knowledgeable pig hunters is.
Where would you expect the pigs to be at this time of the year ? in that type of country and with the weather we are currently getting.

Obviously some sunshine and shelter might be top of a pigs list after something for them to eat.
Thoughts ?

Warm basins with all day sun . If there any north facing Manuka areas(not the black wet shit ,the dry redish stuff) they are always good for a pig . Pigs will be digging hard out under and around the Matagauri flats . They come out a lot earlier that deer like 3pm or even earlier . They like to get digging before the ground gets frozen . Better pigs can be caught out on a sunny spur with warm areas near by dry Manuka and rocks
