Looking at heading up the Rangitata-Havelock to Carney's Creek in a couple weeks. Has anyone been up there recently? Whats the track like? Is there a track? River crossings?

Can't drive up Carneys. Can drive up the TR of the Rangitata/Havelock to where Carneys comes into the Havelock. It's normally pretty easy going up to there unless the river is high.

It gets a bit hard to follow out in the river gravel at points. Snorkel is ideal since you do have to cross the main stream of the Rangitata at one stage but should be fine if you go when flow is low (snow on the hills, less than say 50-60 cumec)

Went up the river a bit today and it's running pretty hard. I don' think anything more than a couple of k up from black birch is going to look very familiar for a while. I'll be up there probably Monday - will let you know how it's looking.
