Chetwynd Reserve - Just out of Fairlie

Chetwynd hunting area just out of Fairlie. I was thinking of going and having a look there for wallaby on Monday week.

Is anyone here on the forums familiar with the area and care to share any info on the block? Are there wallabies there is sufficient quantity to justify a days endeavour?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

    Cheers
    Phil

Bugger.....I think I have just found my answer to my own question....

    https://www.nzherald.co.nz/the-count...ectid=11912582

400 wallabies culled from Chetwynd only this month, if the article is correct.

Are there wallabies there? Yes, maybe, but 400 less than there were less than a month ago.....and it is only 609 hectares in size.

    Again....Bugger.....

    Cheers
    Phil

Doh....I was reading the date on the top left of the page, not the one just at the top of the article.

Well then, most definitely worth a look. Three years will no doubt have regenerated 400 wallabies I would tend to think.

    Cheers

I've roasted the back legs before, quite a coarse texture meat. Needs a cover over the roasting pan and some kind of liquid or it's drier than a hindu's gym shoe.
In short, yup good to eat I reckon.
If you can't beat them, beat them.
They will be expecting you to join them, so you'll have the element of surprise.

That block does get a fair flogging being so close to Timaru, however there will always be roos in there somewhere, as well as the very occasional fallow wandering in from the neighbours..
