I thought it hadn't happened yet?
due to start July
Two day trail ride on in that area this weekend.
Yes Hamish, I believe they are doiing right down the Te Iringa to Kaipo...
This off another forum from a Phillip Dawson of OSPRI.
So it looks like the pines have/are being done however we still have some time before the 'Kaipo' drop.Quote:
Clements Mill Road has not been treated with anything yet.
Clements Mill is part of the ‘Kaipo’ operation which we have planned to start pre-feeding in late July – but more likely August, given the weather.
The area that did get treated, and comes close to Clements Mill, is private land mostly owned by Lake Taupo Forest Trust. It is the remainder of the half completed ‘East Taupo’ operation. The already-treated half of this operation is owned by CNIC – managed by Kaingaroa Timberlands. It was treated with toxin on 3rd March 2016.
The boundaries of the area treated on Saturday: Waitahanui stream is the northern boundary, Hinemaiaia stream is the southern boundary, eastern boundary is near Clements mill road and the lake is its western boundary. Saturday 4th June was non-toxic pre-feed deer repellent coated bait (which can look a reddish colour sometimes). Pre-feed baits can be closer to the edges of the operational boundary than toxin so I assume this person was looking over the fence at this bait(?).
A bit of background on splitting this operation: the Timberlands section of the East Taupo operation was initially planned for completion in late 2015 and to follow was going to be Saturdays treatment area, planned for about March. Timberlands could not be done in late 2015 so it was moved to the March treatment date. Saturdays treatment, initially planned for March, was then moved to now. These moves were made to allow a bit more time for trust owners to hunt untreated lands prior to winter.
"Kaipo" in TBFree and DoC speak means pretty well the whole RHA

Geeze, that is just criminal. Such a lovely area in there.
Aerial drops in a RHA that is so accessible is absolute madness. RIP to a lot of wildlife in there. I was in the area in April and the bush was alive with birdsong so will be interesting to compare this after the proposed genocide there.
Has anything gone ahead in there?
When? I was in there 2 weeks ago and no signs up?
Crap :( guess i might aswell get my camera out of there then
