Good problem solving.
It's very rare for it to be a dud primer. So I always look beyond the primer itself.

Thats what I was thinking

I once did do what you look like to have done - I reloaded some .44-40 cases with black powder - into cases that I had not deprimed. They still had the old fired primers in them. (I didnt need to resize the cases for black powder load) So I ended up with a bunch of cartridges that I had no way of firing - and you cant get the powder out because its compressed into a solid black cake.
There was nothing really to be done. Actually I wonder what I did with them.

Pull the projectile and have a look in there with a match.

only time it happen to me it was the bolt, it was good for a deep clean. tear in pieces deep clean and add light oil

The only time I've had the click click boom effect was in mid winter night shooting. Back at the vehicle, the outside temp reading was -10C
After wiping off any visible oil from inside the bolt assembly the problem went away :yuush:

Yep, will soon let you know if there’s anything ‘splody in there. Bit like gas welding motorcycle fuel tanks even after decontamination.
