Thread: Compact binos for bush hunting

Been using guns with open sights a lot lately,what’s the best set of compact binos to use since I don’t have the option of using a scope to confirm if what I’m looking at is a deer ear or a leaf blowing in the wind?heard the leupolds are good bang for buck .. thanks

Leica 10+25 not cheap but buy once cry once

Swarovski 8x25 for bush

For bush hunting I use Leupold BX-1 Yosemite 6x30mm, great compact bino and the 6x is good for quick one handed looks, and they are certainly cheap enough for you to not worry about them getting bashed around and scratched up, they ushally tuck inside my shirt or jacket nicely, not good out in the open though certainly want to spend a bit more for open country binos.

I use stiener safari

Any of the low power 6-8 compacts with a wide fov and good depth of focus would be ideal. You dont need 10x in fact you probably only need 4x.
Even in open country a 6 or 8 is suitable for 98% of things and if you need a closer view use that 4-12, or 3-16 fancy scope.

If you're after bang for buck, the Leupy Yosemites are hard to beat alright, 6x if all up close bush stuff, or 8x if you hunt bush and a bit further out.

I always carry this. Bushnell 8x monocular.
Not the greatest glass but works a bloody treat.

A few years back I bought a pair Leica 10x25 as a spare, and to use while I was fishing. Bloody excellent! Saw animals within 2 minutes of using them, they fit in your pocket, so out of the way, light, and bloody good glass. You wont need 10x for the bush tho. And I use these if Im going on a bit of a backpack mission and want to go lightweight.

If you are on a budget I can recommend Leupold Yosemite 6X30. They are part of the BX-1 series these days. Really compact, super lightweight and perfect magnification for in the bush. Like you I used them for confirming deer when using open sights. I usually carry them bush hunting but don't tend to use them much with the scoped rifles. Handy if you have to look over a clear, river flats or if you unexpectedly hit the tops (sometimes the day just moves you...).

Great for the kids, as light weight, 6 power doesn't shake as much as say 10, and when they inevitably drop them it doesn't make you wince as much as the Leica's etc will.

Still if you can afford compact European glass, then that will always be better.

If you can afford the Swaro Mountains are the pick
