terrible life, i cant imagine spending 200 days a year in the bush....poor bastards....... haha
I didn't think it'd be worth the helicopter ride alone to shot 1-2 goats a day for 10 days.
I kinda figured the same thing, dont get me wrong they're doing an awesome job I just didnt think the goat numbers were high enough to justify the resource. I used to shoot goats down that way and I could go out for a morning with the 12g and no dog and get anything from 1-15. But hey I guess thats where the powers that be have decided they are the highest threat.Quote:

The hardest and most expensive part of any pest control operation is when numbers are reduced, yet its also the most important. If you stop the operation then all the previous culling was basically a waste of time as animal numbers will just bounce back.
Im sure they have have weighed up the pros and cons and decided that it is worthwhile protecting the area. Id rather my tax money go to funding operations like this rather then half the people on benefits.
Also with the efforts that this guy and his team are putting in, they're targeting the problem species directly rather than the indiscriminate 1080
Yeah that makes perfect sense actually. I was thinking more along the lines of leave them until the numbers are up and go back and have a ball but thats not the aim of the game so to speak
It also costs a lot of money in bureaucracy to start and finish programs like this, especially in government. The cost of a few helicopter rides and keeping these guys on more or less permanently probably works out better than a stop start programme in the long run. Sits on a different line on the budget as well so may be easier to authorise. (capex vs opex)
