Crossing the Hopkins
I'm heading up the Hopkins mid July and wondering how easy is it to cross at Red hut in normal winter flow conditions in a 4wd without a snorkel.
Do people usually cross just before the Huxley or cross the Huxley first? I have been up as far as the Huxley in the ute, just not crossed the Hopkins there.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers

I was in there 2 years ago , flows were probably a bit higher but there's no way I was driving across the river , there's a spot before monument hut were the track go,s into the river even that was a bit dodgy , but iv only been in there the 1 time so no expert on the area , didn't see many animals , did shoot 2 bulls though , according to the station manager they had been shooting the nanny,s from the chopper & leaving the bulls & over on the Dobson the station had been live capturing good one,s & letting them go on the station for tourists to shoot , both stations have guiding business's.

Cross by the monument hut, should be able to follow what looks like a track to red hut, should be a road cone out where you need to cross the Hopkins before red hut

From monument Hut you'll need to cross that wee stream in front which is the same stream you would have crossed heading up to the Huxley.
From that stream you'll see wheel marks of a vague track heading in the direction of Red Hut where there is the odd road cone placed here and there thanks to a local named Mark.
The track will lead you to Red Hut and the crossings are all very doable in a vehicle without a snorkel but take your time and check where your crossing.
On a side note i saw my first ever Thar up behind Red Hut and shot my first ones up there aswell. There used to be an old lazy boy chair in that hut but it's since gone. Good times!
