I'm looking at exploring Waikaia Bush at some point. As I understand it the swing bridge by Piano Flat is out of action for a bit longer until it gets repaired. Is the only other way across the Waikaia River to hunt on the western side or walk up the Titan Rocks track by travelling further up the from Piano Flat along Whitecoombe Road and cross at the Jack Edgerton Bridge?
When the river is low, then you can wade the river about 500m - 1km above camp ground at Piano Flat. I've done this a few times. DO NOT cross if the river is high - you will drown. Has been wet lately.
Otherwise as you say, the top bridge or walk up towards Bush Huts.
If you go via Canton road/Bridge you'll need permission from Glenaray Station- I have no idea whether you'll get that or not.
Thanks for that. I have no intention of crossing rivers especially if it has been raining. I'll have my 9 year old with me and the dog, so there will be no risk taking. Will be good to explore some new territory. Looking forward to stretching the legs before the world goes mad later in the month.
Nice one. Plenty of country on the true left above the road. No need to cross river at all.
If you have a small inflatable, that would be the easiest, other wise you will have to go up the road to Post office creek? to access the track to the middle bridge, or cut of the road further up and take the direct route to the bridge
