    Deer on road

Driving from Tokoroa to Mangakino on the weekend my wife and saw red deer hinds eating on the side of the road. It was 0900hrs and the sun was on the deer. They just kept eating as we drove past at 100kmph, didn't even lift their heads.
No rifle or any hunting gear in the truck!
Just thought I'd note it as it's not every day they wander out..........

Nearly ran one over on Tar Hill before Tokoroa, running out onto the SH1on a Friday night at dusk a couple of years ago, not unusual to see pigs on the side of SH1 between Tok and Taupo.

Yep not unusual to see deer and pigs on the side of the road on Tar hill.

They seem oblivious to all the traffic and quite comfortable being there until you stop your car and then you'll see how fast they disappear.

    Cheers

Join Tokoroa NZDA put up with the three year stand down before being able to get a deer permit then go into the ballot to get a deer permit, they close the deer season once pig hunting starts up

Sounds fair, what Tok NZDA must have over 3 members? Gotta keep in in house, otherwise people would only join to shoot the bloody deer!

I used to be a member there but left as they offered nothing in the form of hunter education all you heard about was bloody target shooting at each meeting and any deer hunting that was mentioned it was to do with the pines, the forestry company did say to NZDA they did not give a shit about the stand down periods for permits anymore but NZDA decided to keep it enforced, the deal breaker for me was one guy joined and got a permit with no stand down because he knew the president of the tok NZDA I left after that bit of favoritism. In saying that I have access to a farm I used to manage right next to the pines that I have taken a few pigs that have come through onto the farm and he bought extra land that had been logged out to extend it, I really should give the guy a ring to see how things are going.
