That looks awesome, well done your mate
Impressive
$700 lowa voucher
$300 backcountry voucher……
A Plb n some socks for his efforts
Yesterdays winning news was ice to his freshly snipped nuts haha poor cunt
Bet it had the stink to match the horn size
I used to run the goat control out of Kaitaia - one of my hunters got a cracker 44 inch head North Eastern end of Ratea forest - I saw a picture many years ago of one shot at Waima I think thats Waipoa Forest way 47 7/8 inches looked very similar style to this head - I believe it was the NZDA record and if my memory is correct scored 135 - another good one was a 44 in mate shot as a young fella at Tokomaru bay - interesting thing with all those heads - same style - must be the breed - possible some angora blood in them- those real stonker heads are rare - I have shot hundreds for work and best I ever got was 35 1/2- Taranaki has in general very poor heads
A rarer trophy than a 12 point red....
Kudos to the hunter

Thats a real curla,well done.
700 hunters entered the competition, 10,000 goats were culled
Only 700? That's a poor showing considering the number of LFAO
Identify your target beyond all doubt because you never miss (right?) and I'll be missed.
Average of over 14 goats per hunter. Maybe not all shooters entered the comp.
How many tails did you enter @woods223?
Should have entered but never got around to it! I imagine that many more goats would have been destroyed by LFAO, and not counted during the same period.
Awesome head, congrats to your mate!
Of the thousands I've shot in Golden Bay, the best only just brushed 30"
Most of the goats here are from stock brought in by gold miners in the late 1800's, big solid animals with thick dark horns but not much spread. My old trophy showed characteristics of mixed angora bloodlines.
Mineral content of the soils also has a strong influence; East Coast NI seems to produce good trophies.
What an awesome competition. Yet another great example of how if you’re smart, work together and get the support of other organisations you can archive great things.
A great start, 10,000 dead goats, imagine how much biodiversity that’ll enhance.
I was just thinking the same @craigc, for the amount of animals shot for the costs of the prizes this is a very cost effective pest control solution.
Did ya get a prize?
I got $100 worth of backcountry goodies as a spot price at one of the local dropoff days. Pretty good for just popping along and having a yarn to some good buggers at the event.
Fella had a nice head there too, think it was 106 from memory.

I reckon the real number of goats shot was way over 10k. I certainly didnt get the tails off every one I shot, sometimes its just too hard !
Awesome idea I hope it becomes an annual event. A wallaby one would be good too [emoji41]

@kukuwai. No, didn’t win anything. No local events here. Had to enter tails over in Nelson or ring local DOC office to make an appointment to count/collect. No support from local H&F shop or Deerstalkers. Pretty piss poor really. I only took some of the tails off animals shot and couldn’t be arsed taking heads. Possibly should have. One in image was 700mm tip to tip, there were wider ones but who cares. Attachment 239590
Yeah. I can't believe someone in Blenheim (goat city) didn't get behind the comp. Real shame.
My tails are still in the freezer. Never made it to a drop off haha. Won't stop me shooting goats though. I suppose I should go throw the tails out...
Congrats!!!!
I'd say there's plenty more than 10,000 shot. I shot 8 but only remembered to collect 3 tails and didn't get around to entering them and I'd say there's plenty of others.
Most tails also went to a Northland Pest Controller.
Alright, here’s First Place

Yeah, has a fair bit of Angora in that one. Back when they were worth good money before the black Friday stock market crash Northland was known for its feral Angora population.
Hunter is 6”3 100 odd kilo for perspective
@kukuwai…interested what you were shooting with…calibre???

We had this one come through our club, scored 111 & 1/2 with a 39 & 1/2" spread
1st place picture - that goats body is fricken huge..
Thanks for posting picture
I saw this big old boy a few months ago. He was by far the biggest I have seen. Any ideas what it could have scored roughly? I'm no goat expert.
Attachment 239685
he would score VERY well as has lots of curl going on to add length,as a teen I shot quiet a few hovering around the 30" but didnt quiet get there. big farm in central king country so heaps to choose from...one trick we learnt when shooting goats was leave the white ones alone...makes finding mob easier next time ,and time after, and so on....
Looks nice and old to me, probably wont get much bigger.
Its a super cool photo @Rusky
Got to shoot them to score em unfortunately, but I'm with @Micky Duck. Think it would have gone ok [emoji3]
