DOC "reserves" - is access allowed to hunt?

Going away with the family next week. I see some "DOC reserve" land nearby on WAMS. Does that mean I can hunt there?
    How do I find out?

Go onto the website Parks and recreation: New Zealand Department of Conservation Te Papa Atawhai And have a look, You have to get a permit for hunting, I dont know what block it is but it may be able to be done online other wise you will have to visit your local doc office and find out there.

    Hope this helps.

Yeah, just cause it's DoC doesn't mean you can hunt there, some areas have restrictions................Local DoC office will know.

    Yes, I have a permit.
The reserves are on banks peninsula.
    I've emails DOC.

I've learned in the past that there are more areas on DOC administered land that we can hunt that are not listed as "hunting blocks"

If you have a permit you can hunt, I also learnt about a few hunting blocks not spoken of on the site but at the office.

That sort of generalization will get you in trouble. A lot of doc land is not marked as hhunting on no hunting areas. Some you can hunt. Some you cannot and it pays to know these things before taking your rifle for a walk

Its huntable ,weekends only, They have become my favorite places to go not because they have many animals (they dont) but just close to home and I get the whole block to my self.

Remember that just because you have a permit doesn't mean you have right of access.
