Hi, has anyone seen a liver like this? Obviously not going to eat it, but hoping that the muscle is ok. Large hind otherwise looked fine, very big and otherwise healthy, lots of subcutaneous fat. Shot above Middlemarch.

Nah the deer I shoot don't have a liver....well I sure as shit don't carry it out.
Pity the photo of the liver's surface isn't a bit clearer but looks parasitic, probably liver fluke. Did you notice any grainy material in the bile duct or any fluke that look like tiny little flounder? This doesn't generally affect the meat but can affect the general health of the deer making it skinny and run down which obviously affects the quality.
If by bile duct you mean gall bladder, deer dont have one.Quote:

They get it by ingesting a small snail when drinking and if one deer in a location has it the chances are it will be widespread in that area. Sheep and cattle also get it, don't know about now but it used to be quite a common problem back in the 90's
Yes. Very familiar with flukes (liver flukes, not actually hitting a deer I shot at fluke).
Great way to put people off their dinner by showing them videos of flukes or nasal bots.
