Hey all, question and answer time. What are your thoughts on paying for an official Douglas Score to be done on a trophy you have secured? Have you paid or offered to pay in some form in the past?
Hypothetically, you shoot an animal of a lifetime and you want to have a record of actual DS in written format that can be kept. Would you pay an official scorer $100 for a stag or say $50 for chamois or tahr? These monetary figures have been plucked from the air, but bare in mind it takes about an hour or so to score a reasonable red deer or fallow and about 30+mins for tahr or chamois.
I know if you are a member of the NZDA, you can likely get this done on your club trophy night, but there are a lot of hunters who are not affiliated and who seek a recorded reference.
Some taxidermists charge an extra fee to have a DS or SCI score done at the time of mounting, after all you are paying for their service & skill.
Some will know, I am an official DS scorer and have been for some 20 years. This is not intended to be used an an indicator of some sort of extra money making scheme....believe me, more about your thoughts on the subject.
