Probably been covered before…
But anyways, I’ve got access to a private Taranaki (South) back block this weekend and the weather looks miserable! Not gonna stop me because I’m bored and I do own a rain jacket.
I’ve hunted there once or twice before and there are pleeeenty of animals.
What should I expect of them in wet & wild conditions? Any tips?
I know they don’t just up & leave or head inside when it gets nasty out so they must be somewhere!
I don't know for sure but same thing happened to me a couple weeks back. woke up and looked outside and saw sheep rolling past. 95k gusts on the hill tops. I went anyway and found both my kills just in the edge of the bush line. the last one was part of a mob that i followed up the valley because every time I dropped down into the bush line, the wind changed. and then got em on the walk out. But I literally don't know anything hahahaha:thumbsup:
get out there our last meat trip eastern Taranaki was a 50 knot wind blowing and drizzle with some gusts even more and thunder- deer were out although moving more than usual and nervous we shot two and left it was damn unpleasant the thunder was the last straw but there were pockets of pleasant if not raining
Shot a fallow in a howling southerly down Martinborough a few years back. I was kitted up I full farm wet weather gear.
look into the lee side of hills they will be tucked up there out of the wind.or if there's some bush get into the least windy side and bush hunt them
Fallow are pretty weather sensitive in my experience. But don't let the shite stop you. You'll need to get into the sheltered spots. Probably in the Bush, definitely out of the wind and rain.

In my experience Fallow love the rain but like all deer i guess, hate the wind!! I've seen them out feeding in pissing rain with very little to no wind, so as said look into the country that is sheltered from the wind and I'm sure that's where you will find them feeding.
They don't dissolve in the rain, but they really don't like the wind when it's cold.
Look in spots out of the wind first.
Generally you can't shoot deer from couch
