Not sure how to post the pictures from imagur. They have changed things a lot. Hope it works.

Our local deerstalkers' club has been doing Over 65s group hunts for the last few years and it is great fun. Hunt was over the weekend of 18th to 20th July.

There were 9 of us including the 62 year old farm owner's brother - who is a member & good friend.

2 nights in the wool shed. Very cold as the region is quite close to the snow capped mountains in central North island. No heating as the wool shed is old and lots of flamable stuff around. Quite dry as there had been little rain.

Totally 9 deer, 1 pig and 1 goat were shot. One member got a nice palmated stag (a trophy for the region) at 250 meters after a long stalk of 750 meters.

My stag was a typical Whanganui scrub animal. We walked around the fence line and climbed a hill to glass the next gully while the other guy went after the nice buck a long way off. We watched him stalk and shoot it.

Grant & I climbed up to the top of a hill and immediately spotted a mob of about 6 deer that included this buck and few other spikers and hinds. I climbed over a fence in order to get a good rest and ranged him at 234 meters. He spotted us and was looking straight on with very little angle. I took a solid rest and lined him up on the Leupold VX3 2.5-8X using the Boone & Crocket reticle. Zero at 100 meters, 1st dot at 200 and second dot at 250 meters. I aimed for the base of the throat above the heart area. I sqeezed the trigger and heard the solid hit. The stag ran about 50 meters towards us along the fence line and staggered around before tipping over.

I am shooting my Kimber Montana 7mm08 with 160 gr Accubonds at 2600 fps. Very accurate. The bullet entered at base of throat and exited in the rib cage behind the right shoulder. It probably took out some arteries and one lung.

We had a good chat over a few Single malts for the evening.
