This is a bit rough, but it might assist someone who has never done it before.
For anyone interested, the knife is a Bark River “Wolf River” model.

Thanks for posting that, informative.
That knife looks amzeballs!!.Did you dress him out that way because of the way he was on the ground or always like that Tahr?Did you take the eye fillets?.pretty tranquil place to dress the animal out in two.

Bloody good thanks for that.
Thats how I always do it Jason. Back steaks first, then use the front legs as handles to roll them onto their back. Back legs off, and boned (making sure I get the rumps at the same time - they come off with the leg all in one piece), then the front legs off and boned. Nah, I seldom take the inside steaks. The way I do the deer avoids opening them up, and I don’t want to do that for just a couple of slimy and bloody bits of meat. If I do, its the last thing so that there is no risk of spilling gut contents onto anything ‘cos by then the animal is pretty damned naked.
good one. I can see why you done it like that. after my last deer the only question would be... do you check the organs for signs of disease?
mine had damaged its leg but it looked fairly well healed. I did look at the organs but I plan on taking a bit more notice from now on with a better idea of what to look for, mine was tough and had a taint to the meat.
Im not sure that there is a risk to humans through any disease. Especially if the meats well cooked.
We worry too much. I have kicked the odd one over the bank because it was too skinny or I didn't like the look of the meat though. Besides, I don't like getting my hands dirty by fishing around inside the dark and spooky internal spaces of a deer :)
After years of venison trade meat hunting, I really enjoy not having to gut them.
Cheers
Thanks for posting that! I like how the dog whipped in for a quick snack
Interesting - I have to do this for the first time (hopefully!) in the not too distant future. This is different to any other video I have seen. What would we do without youtube?!
Tahr very much
I do the same but do guts first which is a pain in the arse. Might not bother in the future now.
Fair enough not to gut the deer, I however love the inside fillets, best cut by far and never ever ever given away, except when my dog eats a mates and then I feel obliged to replace em.
Good video, cheers for posting

I used to gut every deer, but the past couple of years have been good to me and I haven't bothered with the whole animal unless its close to the truck. Once the freezer is full, topping up with back steaks and the 4 wheels (boned out) is plenty enough.
If you lay the deer on its guts you can get the fillets out from the top.
Maybe Saturday ?
Hey so I dressed out my last animal the way Tahr showed in this Thread and although it wasn't as pretty it worked and was a lot faster, when I got home I put the boned out meet into the chilla inside some mutton cloth.7 days later I grabbed it still nice and moist and it was so much quicker and tidier to prepare it for the freezer even the missus was impressed at the little mess left over.......happy wife happy life!!:).without the wiser heads on here passing on helpful tricks and tips this would be a unimpressive forum IMO Cheers BC.
