Just about any roadend on either side of the Southern Ruahines will get you into the park. She's busy in there at the moment thou.
I'd be wearing some bright blaze gear.
No disrespect, but now is not the best time to hit the bush/hill as a brand newby to hunting.
Cheers guys, I thought as much. No disrespect Kidmac. I can get access to some private land out the back of wanganui, might stick to that until the roar is over.

Only places I have hunted in recent years in Ruahines is around Longview / Daphnie Huts area. We were at Daphine around the roar and we heard quite a few roaring but it's big country and quite steep.

Weather permiting I'm looking at a day hunt round that area next week. I'll just try my luck and look for a deserted road end.
