The least you can do for her, bringing up the girls for you and not being able to go hunting, good on her for putting the foot down.
Can't really think of a place but off hand the rakaia heads be good, tahr, chamois and reds. Long time since I've been in a chopper but my power bill just jumped up 100 percent.
    Following along.

Nice time for Tahr and buck chamois down low. Stags obviously in velvet.

Mt Cook to Rangitata offer plenty of places. Even a fly in and a stroll out will help balance the cost.

Plenty of options, depends what you want to chase, and if you want to base from a hut or not. Prouting at rangitata, Pridham at tekapo both have 500s and would put you in nice tahr country. Or maybe a nice option for a bit of comfort, nip up to glentanner and get them to pop you over the hill into one of the huts at the head of the Dobson. Short flight time on that one so fairly affordable too. Not sure on tahr numbers these days though..

Yup, used Southern Alps Air a couple of times, and plan on using then in Oct. Good service, and lots of opportunities.

They have lots of remote airstrips they can put down on. And a big plane for up to 6 passengers or a smaller one for 3-4. Give them a call 0800345666, good to talk to. And if you pick a strip close to some nice water, there should be some good fishing too.

I don't know what impresses me more about all this. The fact your wife is actually keen to go hunting or that you can afford a helicopter flight.
    Winning mate.

Great valley but the only hut with a fireplace is Kennedy hut.
    Might kill the romance.

I didn't realize there was a fix wing down those ways you can use to get in to hunting spots.
What is the pricing on a fix wing compared to helicopter?
yes fix wing has limited landing area so will Southern Alps Air give you a list of area's it can access?
