To me Free Range means strictly public land or land anyone is allowed to hunt.
Private land animals of any sort only have a select few that can chase them at the best of times. A lot of private land is seeded like a bed of scallops when it comes to trophy class animals.

If that what someone thought they had to do to win one has to ask what the victory really means to them.

IMHO not free range, not really hunting, just killing.

    Feel sorry for other competitors.

Free range eggs: the chooks are running around but they are still inside a pen.

In hunting that is an "American notion" of game free to move even in large paddock .
I think we have discussed the topic multiple times when there was that big trophy head shot in South Island.
If you shoot an animal on public land you should be able to enter.
I think if you pay a guide to take you onto DOC land to shoot a wild animal you should be able to enter.
If your paying for your trophy head with or with out the guide fee on private land that is borderline : if the animal was coming from nearby public bush and never had human interaction that could ok but anything else and specially animal raised on a farm for their heads is a no no.

Hmmmmm......yes, I had quite a lot to say about that 'free range' trophy on that South Island hunt, claimed by the American lady......world record too......she claimed!!!!!!!!
While I might not be as good as I once was, Im as good once as I ever was!
