It was along the lines that the govt was going to ban them for being dangerous at over a mile . I mean really ?????
there was speculation about 338 lapua at one point in time....... but the pen pushers havent a clue. unless it is set in stone, these are just rumours created to unsettle the masses.
Hopefully it stays as just a rumor be a little bit gutting if it gains traction
I'd just heard from a couple of places and it came up because I am selling a winmag and struggling so it was suggested that was why . But I'm a little bit uninformed so I thought I'd ask a larger group of people .
I would suggest most peoples "discretionary dollars" have dried up or been sucked up with the increasing costs everywhere I mean in our hobby just look at costs increases in components!Quote:

As far as changes to the rules banning them goes well personally I will keep on keeping on until I have to change.......................no point in worrying about what might be!!
I guess what I need to do is find a eliminator locally bolt it on and start using it again.Nice enough rifle but it's me that's the problem to much hippy shake
Was someone using that to try and beat you down on price?

Greetings All,
I think absolute crap is the right description for the supposed rumor. This type of shit circulates freely in the US and likely will continue to do so.
That said, with the number of new wonder cartridges introduced over the last few years there is bound to be some house keeping of the ranges produced by the manufacturers. This is likely to be in the slower moving lines so it will be a very long time before we see the demise of the .300 Win Mag and 7mm Rem Mag but others like the .264 Win Mag may not be so lucky. Time will tell.
Regards Grandpamac.
No it was just the lack of interest that was getting to me .I think it's fair to say moneys tight and if your willing to give stuff away it will sell if your wanting to keep your shirt it's a long haul . But with all the law changes happening at the moment it pays to be informed so hence my post.
The NZPHQ driven Order in Council bannomatic mood seems to have died down now that its obvious to the wider public that 2 Tranches of Arms Act amendments and a knee jerk 'buy back' haven't 'made us safer'.
Quite the opposite. Gun crime has gone up 30-40% (depending what date you use) since 2018.
So our 300 WinMags are pretty safe.
It did what it was always going to do affect the law abiding citizens .Which all of us licenced firearm owners are but fall short on the rest of the population that have firearms illegally
load of crap IMO. people just wont comply with any sort of demand for this type of rubbish. Even if they ban the cartridge, enough reloading components around to continue using them.
Its bad enough that we've lost semi autos.
And their plan hasn't worked. Gun violence is thru the roof.

Yep was a the local today and when I asked how business was that was basically his reply.
My understanding is that they have stopped the ability to import the rifles stopped 50 bmg so I was told
I think they have seen how "Well" the steal back went and realise (until after the next election) that this would be more problem than it's worth. Wait until registration is sorted then there will be no need for buy backs...
Centrefire magnums have a well established place in recreational hunting and target shooting and no history of use in crime or terrorism.
As far as I know the only noise about this was from the firearms community. Nothing from Govt/Police in concrete... Stop pushing misinfo.
Considering the .22LR has a theoretical danger distance of 1.6k's, not really sure what the issue they would be trying to solve is. I mean, .303Br rear iron sights come in 1200yd max from stock.
I'll just rebarrel my 300PRC to 7mm to get around it
I heard a truck is dangerous for at least half a million miles.
Funny I started this thread because I was after information and there are a lot more knowledgeable people on here than me . And even funnier when someone asks a question I was taught it's polite to answer. So whatever
This is leading down the UK model of requiring a reason acceptable to the police for rifle use - for example (and it depends on the local Constabularies reading of the Home Office guidance) you may only get a "Dangerous game" rifle - 416, 458 470 etc if you have a trip to Africa booked, and they will often restrict the number of rounds you are allowed to own for that rifle.
IF TRUE, and while I don't doubt that the imported British police would be keen to see this rubbish installed here, this is yet another solution to a problem that doesn't exist. I guess having a select committee system that worked would be part of the answer, but with what we currently have I don't know. It seems not creating a problem is no longer sufficient.
Yes, I think you have summed it up. Imported cops who weasel into management with the intention of changing things here to mirror their home country. When 338 Lapua became available the IRA etc used them to shoot border guards from 3 - 400 mtrs as the lapua would penetrate ceramic body armor. - According to mate who was stationed there. So naturally the UK cops have concerns about this class of rifle

Mark nails a 24"x24" target from 3000 yards with a 308, with an effective range limit of 800m according to most armies.
Simple solution... A multiple choice firearms knowledge test for all prospective select committee members. You can only be on the committee if you really know your subject matter.
Actually, 3 waters, wetlands, biodiversity, infrastructure, benefits, carbon... I may be onto a good thing here!
@Bagheera yup but there were firearms in the confiscation that had sporting use that were verboten.
May not have been a lot of them like the remington and browning pumps and semi autos but the detachable mag and a desire to make sure pump ar15s never made it here doomed them.
Even if they made it for calibres under 7mm.wouldve made some.logical sense.
Imagine trying to get a rapid 5+ shots off with a 300 magnum out of a pump action.
Like the aussie laws, confused and jumbled.
They can have pump centerfires but not shotguns. Lever action shotties fell through the cracks.
Now we can have all the shotties but pump detachable mag rifles are goneski.
The big surprise was still being allowed lever actions, especially the detachable mag types.
Not complaining
I thought the IRA were 1) pretty much ceasefired now, and 2) in FUCKING IRELAND!!
As far as I am aware, the 338 wielding IRA are not currently, or in the foreseeable future, operating in NZ. Problem avoided.
I suppose we should be concerned about folks that have diesel, superphosphate and aluminium sawdust as well - I mean, there was some pretty nasty stuff done with that in N Ireland, Afghanistan, Chechnya, Iraq....
The real answer is for people in a country to not feel like this sort of BS is an answer to what troubles them.
But the occupants of clowntown will never pass anti woke legislation ay. That would create mighty vacuum in the area.
