Not yet.
But will be? am wondering how it will effect the bio security act, wild animal control act etc etc
I hope so but won't hold my breath.
Moonhunt, from the little I have read on the matter, it seems there are species or localised herds of species of interest...so I can see that in the future there will be greater controls (and $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ considering how financially strapped and up the creek DOC is...for Pete's sake, it costs more to look after one genetically defunct ground parrot a year than it does a prisoner) to hunt these so called herds of interest. The Conservation Act, etc etc etc will have to be changed, surely. It all provides a deliciously lucrative avenue in time for the presiding governments...where we will no longer, phone the local DOC guy, get a permit, grap the gun and go. Enjoy it while it lasts, boys and boyesses!!!!
I like things the way they are now
As I enter my twilight years I am predisposed to not using up to many words so I will just say "sonzabitches"
I wouldn't mind paying a small fee per year to hunt if it meant there were more animals around.

Ohh I hope not EeeBees, lets not go there
Angle I was coming from was now joe blogs shouldn't need a permit and deer fence to have a pet deer on the back of his block
With you Toby, all except DOC being able to go on private property to cull with the wild animal control act
My concern with this council is it will most likely have the same outspoken people in the hunting and shooting circles we hear about all the time, that will seek positions on the council. Some of them, imo, are far to biased and extreme to look at things reasonably. They cant see the forest for the trees and honestly have no genuine knowlege of herd management (But think or claim they have).
Also areas that have no issues with the likes of waro or animal numbers will be addressed and fucked up the same as somewhere that does have problems, because of lazy logistical efforts (West Coast for example.....maybe?)
Parts of NZ may not be represented properly and will suffer at the hands of idiots with no clue. Bound to happen, as it does now!!
Heli Hunting and 1080 I believe are major issues with this council. These 2 issues are very hot topics.
Dare I say it, but the fact they are hot topics and are topics the council promises to address, they in turn, easily gain support from the iggnorant and stupid among us, that want or think they will eventually get an animal in every clearing.
I also fear it will turn into something like F&G and will be user pays for little or no benefit. I assume most council members will be avid hunters and privy to information that they may eventually abuse for themselves.
The concept is sound but like any other govt initiative, I fear it will become corrupt in no time.
In saying all that, there are really genuine people out there who the council and outdoorsman would really benefit from, but they would never seek a position as they go quietly about their lives.
I know a member of this forum who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes for the Wakatipu Whitetail herd. He has had no recognition and worked at it at his own cost, for a few years. People like him, I believe, are genuine candidates if this council was ever to work for us, as hunters.
+1 excellent post R93!
Hell! Cheers!. I know you secretly like some of my man love posts:D
I spose I just agree with Toby. I like things the way they are now. If there is to be change, for need or want. I dont want it ruining how and what we enjoy now and hope it remains enjoyable for our kids and beyond.
Well considered and well articulated R93. If that was a campaign speech I would vote for you.
God dam. R93 you have brought a tear to my eye !!!! Id vote for you ,
FWIW, at the behest of my local Deerstalkers, I wrote the minister a protest letter as regards WARO harvesting and received this boilerplate reply.
Apparently the Game Animal Council Act is wonderful and we all live in a sunny happy placeAttachment 18058
My view is that, as ever with these things, the quality of this Act is proportional to how much we all get involved and do our bit. In any club or group it's always the same faces that put their hands up to be on the committee and the vast bulk of people have a "what's in it for me" attitude so if we all did a little bit to keep informed and at least vote and be vocal to our elected representatives then that can work towards our sport/pasttime being better. It's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease.
He's the tosser that couldn't even come up with a reply to my email about the doc deparments being shut all the time even when they should be open.
Nick Smith cannot ever be trusted.
On past experience and performance His actions speak louder than his words.
IMO He is Not a friend of the recreational hunter.
Cheers
Pete
Wait till the mods get back from there holidays.... haha , im in the poo, all my fault I started this, I will take the full rap
Moonhunt . I for one thank you as this toppic affects every person on the forum and all hunters !!! We all need to be part of the system and in part have a say ...There's no use complaining after the fact .
R93...What i do or how is only what alot of others would do , We all need to do a little not only for ourselve,s but for the future hunters ....your kids and mine ........;)
Moonhunt, we will stand beside you!!! No mod is going to pick on you without us having an early roar!!! Difference between us and our hairy prey is that we will not wallow about!!!
And we know our forum's dicti re politics and religion...but, hunting is our religion or at least is in our spiritual core and well the politics are becoming an increasingly insidious part of every day life. As already written, this is too important not for us to 'talk' about.
Toby, things never stay the same...there is evolution in all...it just depends on how the evolutionary wheel is balanced...the one aspect is that we can be certain of...the squeaky wheel is oiled...we just need to squeak loudly, in preparedness, in unison, in rationality, and dignity.
EeeBees you have a very special way with words, thank you.
Some philosophy may old man quotes me, and I don't like... but its true ' Nothing lasts forever'
