Im planning on getting a bore snake for my trip, any particular brand? Trust an ali xpress one?
If I'm flying in I take my Coleman Peak 1 Apex stove though it's bloody awesome way better than any of the modern multifuel stoves you can turn it right down to a simmer no worries and will run on coleman fuel, kerosene, meths, petrol no worries and will even run on diesel if you preheat the little brass block where the fuel flow valve is before lighting it. They are unavailable new now but after getting my first one off trademe a few years ago I needed a part and managed to track down some bloke in the UK that deals in old stoves (eccentric fella!) And he had the part for me and a whole brand new stove and bottle etc still in the box since 1994 so I bought that off him too!

My gear is similar to what's been posted, clothes taken just vary between seasons.
I think it's important to actually have your gear list written down so you don't forget anything. I have one for walking around with a pack on & a slightly more expansive one for a fly/drive/boat trip to a base camp.
For say a Haast block trip, we take a couple of large fly's/covers to set up a dry area, fold out camp chair, chilly bin, axe, & better cooking gear (Coleman cooker with 4kg gas bottle, frypan, large Billy's, etc) & gumboots for around camp.
Thanks mate. Having used a cz snake as that's what reloaders had when I shot my 308 and then realised that I had nothing to clean it with and a trade me special for my crappy norinco there's hardly any difference.

Camp chair if not listed already?
Love the gear set ups, always looking for new and improved gear
Anyone tied the kuiu gators? My huntech are not far off falling off.
Pocket Set
This is what you want.... tiny and work really well, just add whatever size felts you need.
@Ryan_Songhurst are those wet wipes the flushable kind biodegradable? I've been looking for some that are. Sick of lugging them in and out. Don't want the place to end up look like a freedom campers spot :(
@Sarvo I've thought about sending my old pair of to Swazi to see if the could make something similar. Year bloody love my old Huntech managed to get a second set of zips and domes put in by a saddle maker, which has given them a few more years:thumbsup:
Burn thanks I'll take the lighter next time should have thought of that:slow:
Looks good dorkus , I don't think you will squeeze it all into a 50 litre though . I would guess that lot would way around the 30 kg mark. Maybe a spotting scope and a wide brimmed hat, also something to carry a reasonable amount of water can save a lot of walking if its dry up there . Also a cloth tape for measuring the humongos set of antlers/horns you guys shoot. and a pair of camp jandals maybe. sounds like a great trip.
I guess the gear list changes a fair bit from a walk in trip to a chopper trip . Ive found I have had to trim down a lot of gear to keep around 25 kg for a 10 day walk in trip.
Your list looks ok Adam, I wonder if you have enough spare food. They taste like shit but I’d add two more back country meals. Nothing worse than going hungry. They’re not heavy.
You should try absolute wilderness meals
They are same price and taste 100x better
Prior to my last trip away with @Ryan_Songhurst I decided to go ahead and record the weight of everything I was putting in my pack. With the weather in Christchurch at the moment being less than desirable, I sat inside today and went through my gear again. I found an app/website online which allows you to create easy gear lists and play around with categorising each item.
I've quickly thrown in what I would normally take on a summer/spring/autumn trip onto the tops. Gave me a bit of a surprise really to find out just how much gear I am carrying.
The little T-Shirt symbol beside some of the items indicates that it is being worn on my person and not stored in my pack.

Only thing that needs to be added to this list is food. For me this changes a fair bit depending on the type of trip I'm heading out on but most times I'd be around 800grams - 1kg of food per day.
Nice little website, might have to have a go at that before my next big trip
Lots of good information on this thread. I also have a list that is printed and pinned to the board in the shed, one for long trips, one for day hunts. Do you think I ever manage to leave without forgetting something? In fact leaving the house in one go is so rare I am actually waiting, as I drive away, to remember what it is that I’ve forgotten. Being rural it’s quite tedious going up and down the driveway cos I’ve forgotten something, sometimes three times. Bloody hopeless.
Yeah I noticed that also. Makes it a fair bit easier to recognise the areas you can start looking at to shave weight.
For me, its pack and sleeping bag. Changing my pack to a lighter weight one and swapping my sleeping bag out for a quilt will get my pack weight down to 8.7kg.
We’ve come a long long way from wooden frame packs etc....heavy gear....canned food ...etc......this type of info is good for everyone and especially the ones getting into this game....kudos to you mate, many need and want a starting point...
you don,t need sunblock that,s for poofters :omg: sunglasses and a good hat is all you need as you will be fully concealed in drab hunting gear otherwise your guna stick out like a sheep shaggers arse:thumbsup:
Bloody great Dorkus...that'd do it...BUT didn't see any bottles of Port in amongst...what an ommission!!
I also take some bicarb of soda [as an old marathon runner, it is bloody great for dispersing the lactic acid, which is what makes the legs sore and tight after a days walk !!!] one level teaspoon in a small amount of water and some more water to wash it down...also good for easing indigestion!
Have a great trip...
To be fair that is probably the bit that looks the best. Most of the hunting i do is APNP so screes, braided river travel are pretty standard, and the strap is in good nick. The bit that is smashed is the inside ankles where i have rubbed it to the 3rd membrane. But they still keep water out. The rest of them is good condition. Next time i am in Chch gonna take them to @twinneedle to get a patch stitched in to make them last a bit longer.
