    Goats on the Ngaruroro

    Hi all,
New to this site. looks fantastic.
I have been out of the hunting scene for a while and while we were jet boating up the Ngaruroro river last weekend we came across a heap of goats up the river on the face of a cliff. I know they weren't on farm land but unsure weather is was related to DOC or Hastings council.
My question is are we legally aloud to shoot them, we love a bit of game meat and hunt in often in the Ruahine ranges for deer etc.
    Cheers Shaun

    The goats at the cable?
    Are on private land.
At the forks they'd be on doc land.

Yeap still a wee way up from the cable until the DoC land. Those faces are on Big Hill and they certainly wouldn't appreciate anyone shooting them.

I assume you mean the big cliffs on the left side heading up stream, you vear left on the river and on the right just past the cliffs there is a camp site?

Yeah the river forks up from the cable, the boating is pretty technical from the cable to the forks.
As is mentioned the goats are on private land so probably best seek permission before you do anything

    Goats on the Ngaruroro

A mate of mine is currently shooting the goats for the owner, the mob of 30 is getting smaller every week.
He has been slowly harvesting them for the past year

    cool ta.
the ones we saw were way before the cable on the big cliffs that basically run straight down to the river edge on the left side of the river if your heading upsteam. just looking at google earth there looks like there is a vineyard right side of the river heading upstream these are the google earth co-ordinates.

Private land mate, and the owner uses those goats

If you want goats drive up the wairoa rd and door knock rural areas.

Or talk to peter reid at panpac, they have a zillion goats in the aroapaunui and waipatiki forest blocks, fallow too
