Goats, Who knows where I can get them in the south island?

I was chatting to a mate who got access to a back block of regrowth up north, He shot a few goats to clear them out up there.
Where can I get access to the same sort of opportunity around Canterbury/ South Island?
I would like to fill up my freezer and I can tell the difference between a goat and livestock if anyone reading has a bit of land with plenty of goats.
Otherwise, where on government land can I take goats? I know you can see them here and there in national parks sometimes but is there any good places to target them?

Kaikoura Ranges or private property in Banks Penisula (with appropriate permission) was were we shot goats while I lived in Chch.

Are the Kaikoura ranges part of government land or is it privately held? Using google maps, it doesn't show up as a national park.

Plenty up the Mokihinui River. Saw heaps as we rafted it.
