The travel really takes a hit on your time in the bush, it normally takes me around 5 hours to get somewhere so I started leaving before sun up, gives me time to set camp up have lunch and go for a evening hunt. I would be happy if I had somewhere local to just get turkeys or the odd goat would be awsome

I used to offer this kind of hunt when I was at Waitomo. My thinking was similar price per kg too what id get for a beast heading too the works, which worked out at 150 per fallow. Supermarket price isn't really a good comparison. I used it as a management tool so more important than the individual animals value was did it need culling from the heard, and so most of my offers were for does or really poor bucks.

I found it hard to justify some of the prices I see these hunts offered for, and as many of my customers were just starting out, I gave them a hand to skin and butcher as well. Very often they appreciated that with a reasonable bonus I never asked for.

Be very wary if a guy called Damo or Damian who offers hunts up the wanganui river road towards Jerusalem. Dunno jf he is still there but he us a shifty character that iwes a few of us either deer or refunds. Be warned
