    Hanmer Springs for a quickie

Visiting Hanmer for the weekend to catch up with the kids and some mates, Wives have asked if us lads want to get away for the night somewhere close by.
    Well um... Yeah.
We are reasonably familiar with Hanmer area so far as driving and 4wding. But not so on easy spots to access the bush for a quick camp out and short evening/morning hunt. Hoping to get a couple of the youngsters out for the night too.
We would have headed up the Edwards Valley for a night but the road is closed, So looking at topo maps and thinking we might shoot up Timms stream and lurk around the base of Mt Horrible.
Any suggestions or ideas you guys would have to share would be appreciated.
    Cheers all.

Timms could be good be ok, or maybe the right branch of Duncans maybe, failing that out beyond Tennyson. It could be quite busy over the back being week one of the school holidays as Hanmer has never slowed down after last years lockdown ended.

If you have mountain bikes Edwards would still be a go too.

I haven't been out since before Easter as it just far too crowded at the moment over there.

Keep an eye on the forecast too as last weekend it was flat calm in Hanmer Saturday but mate was in the Molesworth on a block and it was soo windy he had no sleep for 2 nights

Duncans looks good, Cheers for that @Happy Jack
Back of Tennyson is one of our go to places, good camping spots over near the ruins of the old Rabbit board hut.

Was very concerned that the original OP might need to get a hotel room rather than use one of the freedom camping spots in town when I saw the thread title.

I reckon we would too. I'm a builder down here and the wife works at the info centre. But neither of us work weekends, although I'll be home this weekend as I have a large barn door to make to finish the house. Only been in it 2 years so no hurry.

I'm the poor bugger that gets to beg with the Builder, plead with Plumber and twist the Sparkies arm to get all the work done on our Resort. That's in the spare time between running the grounds and maintenance teams. One day when I'm passing with a few less bodies in tow I'll call in far a yarn.

I took a drive over Malings Pass yesterday for a bit of a reccy and leg stretching. No sooner had I parked and started walking, Bill Hales appeared over the hill and started working the river flats and fringe country.

Cheers for the pointers lads. We have just returned from a couple of days in the Rainbow. Laid eyes on a few Chamois up high. It was good to get away and put a few Km under the belt.
