    Help needed

    I was planning on going on my annual spring hunt in tataraakina but I hear this might not be on anymore
    as its got new lease holders. So I need a back up plan.
    im going with my father and one of his mates and great uncle they are all old and broken
    and tataraakina was ideal as you could drive to the huts. and there was clearings and loging tracks this suited them.
    also I don't want to spend a fortune with heli sika ect any ideas would be a big help.

    if they are not able to get around easily, and you don't wish to spend money on chopper rides I suggest you try piropiro flats in the pureora. heaps of logging tracks, and a few clearings. good campsite which u can drive to. if you have a quad bike this will be even better. only problem is that you will not be alone.. and I think they are about to give it another dose of good old 1080 soon. contract the doc office at te kuite.

    yea I hope I can still go but starting to think of back ups been to piropiro flats a few times to many people for my likeing and a hut would be better my old mans uncle is closer to 80 than 70 and would be happy to sit on a clearing all day with the old 303 but I think a tent of fly would be a hard ask

    The following is copy and paste of a friends update on "the other" forum;

    Tataraakina blocks will be open for the spring hunt .Just got off the phone with Lisa and they are going to be honoring the bookings for the spring hunt .She will be calling everyone who has a booking in the next few days to confirm your bookings .The tataraakina website http://www.tataraakina.co.nz/ will be updated tomorrow .A security type firm in Taupo who have experience with hunting blocks have been engaged an you will have to get a key from them for a gate being installed .Lisa will have their number and it will also be on website .We are in Raroa for first week of Sept so will post report afterwards
    They are printing block maps etc as well .Great news .Priceing has been changed it is now a per block per night fee of $200 so if four go its $50 per head per night

    I had raroa block bout four years ago. I think you have to cross the river to get up into that block.there is a track that winds its way around the side of the hill then over into another gully. I found it ok and I managed to get a red hind with my 30 30 trapper just off the track. I had another dude with me and he dropped one up on a slip face with a 6.5. I found the block ok but I think the bush can be tight in places.there is no hut there you have to stay down the road abit.

    Mate and I sat down and tried to cross ref maps to topo. Not sure how accurate this is, but still waiting for the security co running the day to day stuff, to sort something useable

    I am sure that to those that know the area well, the map you posted is probably good enough to get a handle on it. It took two of us quite a few cups of coffee to translate it to topo though.
