Thread: How to hollow out a cow horn for a roaring horn?

We dehorned a cow and have two fresh cow horns that I want to turn into roaring horns. Does anyone have experience with this? They are not hollow, they are still filled in with like bone or whatever is in there

poke into container of soil and leave it alone for a month..the guts will come out on its own..then trim off as little as possible from pointy end to create opening.....trouble with most horns these days is they arent big enough ..the core is honey comed and filled with blood at moment...it wil lcome out given a little bit of time and rot...DONT let dog near it or the ywill chew it up happily.

the horn base is still inside - you could gentle boil and it will come out or bury for a couple of weeks and it should loosen up enough to remove - see how you go from there but you dont normally need to hollow the actual horn out

Put them in a plastic bag somewhere warmish for a few days till they stink , the boney core can then be pulled out just like when you slipe a skin, the fur comes off. Perhaps use a screw in the end to pull on

At the works we used to soak them in hot hot water then bang them on the concrete and the inside came flying out

The horn is like a sheath over a bone core, depending on how it's cut you might need to cut the outside of the horn near the base to separate it. Give it a boil and you should be able to pull it out with some pliers
