Lightbulb Hunter coming from Denmark need help

    Hallo all of you!
I am Magnus (26y) and coming from Denmark,
I am planning to come to NZ for 5 weeks starting the 7. February 2024.
I want to go hunting 2-3 weeks while living in the wild.
Do any of you know how that works? Can anyone help me or give advice how I can make that happen?
    Either public or private land.
Please let me hear from you.
    I also have Email: Magnusmarger@hotmail.com

Looking forward to hear from you

    Magnus from Denmark

    My advice is:
Check with your airline that they permit firearms.
    Get a visitors firearm permit.
Search DOC (who administer public land) website and find a few hunting spots (suggest middle to lower South Island).
    Get a DOC hunting permit.

Be to late for firearm Permit probably
They require 4 month _ yes 4 month pre warning ( mine only took 6 weeks , try begging)
M8 pick a spot on DOC land and enjoy

No, you cannot rent a rifle.
You need a permit to own or possess a rifle in NZ.
If you haven't started the process you'd better get a move on.

you need a visitors firearms licence to be in possession of a rifle weather you buy, bring your own, or rent/borrow. Sadly given your timeframe, you have missed the chance to apply for a licence.

Give us some more information. What do you wish to hunt and by which method? which island? When you say live in the wild, do you want to camp or use huts?

I am thinking to hunt Tahr and Chamosis if possible. Hunting by walk and stalking. Island am I Open for, just where it is possible. I want to camp, and not use the huts, only if that is the only option.

U can try to use a guide , go with a local , ask a farmer , or maybe speak to a street gang
U also have options that requires no licence

As said above, you will need a visitors firearms license. This does take some time but you may as well start the process now, you might get it in time. If you succeed in getting a Visitors License in time, you will need to either bring a firearm with you, or buy one while you are here. Renting a firearm is not an option.

Alternatively you are allowed to hunt in NZ without a license so long as you are under the direct supervision of a NZ licensed firearms owner. This will mean you will need to find a NZ hunting buddy here in NZ for every time you go hunting, and use his or her firearms.

Tahr and chamois - South island only.

The legislation (firearms act) clearly states, that the holder of a visitor licence is not permitted to aquire ownership of a firearm or restricted weapon that they will possess in New Zealand.
