Given his experience I am surprised he has no PLB ?? as usually it is mentioned in these articles or by S&R/Police if one is carried.
Unfortunately a PLB has to be turned on manually.
Iv walked 14ks up the dart river track(true left) 16yrs ago.You only need to wander off the track 10 mtrs in some areas and your lost or gota stop and have a bloody good think where you come from .And i did cross the dart to get my whitetail, but it was very low in a well chosen spot.
Hope they find him soon, its not a friendly if you get lost or fall.
My trip was at the end on May,Should be a lot of people tramping up there at the moment.
This missing Hunter is on this forum. MurrayQld is his handle. Recently asked about taking a rifle from nz to Victoria to hunt sambar. I wish him well. He’s been missing a while now!

The fact he hasn't activated his PLB doesn't bode well. ( I was told he has one but can't confirm this fact ) The weather is changing today, clouds and wind. Really hope he gets found and it's a good result for all involved.
Im sure the landsar teams down there are giving their all to find him.... fingers crossed he is holed up in warm side gully with broken leg, feasting up on a deer and just waiting on help..but the no PLB activation thing ,well could be flat battery or suchlike
Fingers crossed they find him alive and just lost. Hopefully he hasn't decided that he doesn't want to be found.
🤞hopefully a good outcome
He was located late this afternoon, not a good outcome unfortunately.
Sad result
@CATLINS HUNTER do you volunteer and happen to do training around the country for them by any chance?
Sad news. Condolences to his family and mates.
A bit of a wake up to. If an experienced vet can end up in an awful circumstance like this, there but for the grace of god go I.
All good, thought you might have been PK
Without any graphic details, what actually happened - drowning, fall ?
yes and no
he has been found and family can have closure..... I can think of many many places worse to shuffle off to the big hunting ground in the sky than up on the hill.
sleep well old chap, and leave a few easy deer and low flying birds for the rest of us when we join you.
That’s right Micky Duck, good for family to have closure
Sad to hear. At least he went doing what he loved
Very sad, he was a member of the local Alexandra deerstalkers I believe, He seemed like a really nice chap, I only met him a couple of times at meetings, can say I knew him but this will also hit the community hard, wasn't that old at all either.
This is really sad.
Just got back from a high country hunting trip to see this, very sad indeed. RIP fella
He was a former sniper in Aus Army wasn't he? I witnessed what that takes to get through that and he would have been the last guy standing out of many who failed. RIP young fella
At ease soldier. Its always sad when someone shuffles off in the prime of their life I only hope in this case the family and those who knew Murray can take some comfort from that old cliche "he passed doing what he loved"
I reckon my old man will cark it on the hill one day (and he very nearly did recently..) but im 100% at peace with that possibility. Nothing is a given in this life and im probably the worst person in the entire world to be handing out advice of the sort but get out there and live it!
