    Hunting around Wanaka?

    Is there any good hunting on the DOC land around Wanaka? I don't live there so I don't know.. But I'm over there this week to go skiing and might have time for a hunt

    Yes as good as anywhere. Call the Wanaka doc office they usually very helpful and will sort you a permit.
    I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.

    Timaru Creek has a few deer. And tahr up the head of the valley. There used to be judous tahr there to. I don't know if doc still have them up there or not. The office will know though

    Same as anywhere though, all the easy places are pretty thin. Plenty over on Wanaka Faces but fairly big walk!! Doc should sort you out even if you have to drive up the road a bit towards Haast. Good luck with both the hunting and skiing, I got turned away from Cardrona Ski feild today as it was full up! first time ever apparently! Bloody aussies
