    Hunting in the Haurangi's

Hi guys, i have only been in there once before (to Sutherland's hut), and was quite disappointed at the level i sign i saw. Admittedly it was windy the whole trip, but there still didn't seem to be many animals in the area. Im from Wellington and many people seem to have a lot of success in the Haurangi's, i was just wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction in terms of which areas to hunt. I dont mind long walks and having to sleep under a fly instead of hut, just as long as there are a few animals kicking around.

I have also heard that 1080 has hit them pretty hard there and also that Sutherlands is prone to spot lighters?? Anyway any advice appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Josh

Right on both accounts because of easy 4x4 and quad access. If your used to bush hunting the tararuas then the haurangis are a bit different. No such thing as good ridge travel.

pick a path that isnt the main 4x4 track (unless youre walking right past southerlands which is worth a look but its a few hours), walk, sit and spot. the 1080 did knock them but there are still plenty or deer and pigs about.
