Cross the river, turn right, walk about 3k, turn left and go up the hill a bit, slow right down where it flattens out and stalk real slow over to the hidden swampy valley, then be very patient and wait.

    Now, tell me your spots!

    Hi there,
I bought the 7mm off you. A few years ago one off the writers in nz hunter did an article on hunting the Arthur's, they did a trip a from the Beally spur north across the Waimak up to point 1759 and then along the ridge leading past the dome, then they sidled back down to the main scree slip that leads into the Edwards. It looks like the trip was more than 7 years ago but it looks like good country and they got onto plenty of chamois.
As you where walking the ridge the catchments of the Red Beech sound like they would be worth a look as would the head waters of the Sudden valley if you are spending a few days on the tops, water could be a bit hard to find up there.
Good luck hunting chamois is good honest work.

There's the odd chamois on the Kelly Range tops. Easy walk up from the carpark, nice country. Or up Pfeiffer biv. Cloudy part of the world.

No water and no animals anymore either, too many people had the same idea and it became gunfight at the OK corral for a while.

Not exactly the tops but I went for a walk up Jordan Stream the other day and bumped into a couple of chamios hanging out in the bluffs by the river. Plenty of deer sign and feed on Turkey flat. Went there on a long weekend and pretty much ran into every hunter from CHCH
