My boss was up there late last year saw nothing but gut bags and shot gun shells from the choppers but said it was a cool spot all the same
I,m not sure but most definatly wasent when he was there, if it was they didnt care.
The choppers have worked it over, I Havn"t been there for a while, maybe still worth the walk:)
Choppers can't get everything ... but they do knock the numbers way down :(
The upside to this is if the animal numbers are low it's not economic to continue flying over the area.
exclusion zone???? no such thing just a shortned time frame isnt it. there is a small area in the southern Ruahines that dosnt get heli hunted becuase its to rough for the heli boys.Someone enlighten me
the same choppers that do the heli hunting are the ones that drop you in !!!:omg:
except outback mate but they have just bought a bigger chopper:ORLY:
they dont heli hunt (outbck) but yes the area south of you gets attention
Whats Outbacs new chopper?
Must head out for a nosey tomorrow:thumbsup:
My understanding is that south of Tamiki and all of the orua catchment are helicopter (WARO) exclusion zones. Always have been, unless things have changed without DOC consulting with me :ORLY:
For those that don't where it is
Leon Kinvig Hut: Manawatu backcountry huts
Yea ive seen and heard chopper,s working down my way but for a very short time every year.Im sure there times have been capped as waro were trying to open up there time frames, and yes they arnt suppose to be down our way but they have been!!!.And next to no bugger flys into Kiritaki hutt. But hey this could go on forever so tonight ill ask my D S pressie to clarify for me.
Heli hunting ban areas are Dry creek to the gorge on our side..........they can still operate the manawatu side of the southern ruahines.
The choppers hunt on the eastern side from the tamaki north , watched a black chopper with green on it last sunday hunting stanfield cattle creek , mid poh right up towards leon kinvig. They finished operations on thursday this week. until may. Oh and by the way as soon as the chopper had passed deer started coming out. There were a few small yearlings lying around that had been shot and left not sure weather they were to small for quota or what the deal was.
