Its only a wee one, but its my first

On a recent trip back to the UK, I was fortunate to hook up with a friend who guides.
For the price of bottle of something 16yrs old, he took me out for a hunt for a Muntjac deer.
Spring in UK, we stalked woodlands filled with bluebells, squirrels and pheasants.

162yds with a 308win (min caliber for deer in UK is 243), the 150gr SST through the neck dropped him on the spot.

Is there any particular purpose in having teeth/tusks like that? What does a little joker like that weigh? Taste good?

makes em easier to shoot as according to my wife who watches "twilight" they sparkle in sunlight :P

Saw one in Norfolk UK last year, first I thought dog... pig.. no, eventually worked it out.

Canines are not just for gripping prey, they are just CALLED canines. Guess they are as useful as a swiss army knife when rummaging for food.

Good stuff , the Chinese water deer they have there are also crazy looking little things .

I used to see Muntjac deer up on Aston Hill in the Chilterns when I lived in the UK. More than once one or more wandered in to view when I was taking a break from riding my mountain bike.

The most cherished was when a hind and a fawn came along and were unaware of my prescence for quite a while. Proper deer but look like they got shrunk in the dryer!

about 15kg.
Don't know what it tastes like, I'm told like fallow. Part of the deal is that my mate is a game butcher and sells the meat to restaurants.

Used to fend off other males during rut.
They have babies all year, unlike their bigger relatives. Pretty much like rabbits.

I shot a few when I was living there using a .300wsm 😅

Well you missed out Scottrods because they taste really good:thumbsup: that’s a nice sized head you took as well.
Did you try skinning the little guy.....because they are bloody tough. @Gibo there teeth are used mostly for digging for roots and bulbs. This time of the year you often find them with a gut full of bluebells:( when you gut them it’s like what he’s been eating smurfs:D
They are a tough little animal Jim Corbbit hunted them along with Leopards and Tigers.
But year there pretty cool. The bucks give a call like a barking dog. Sort of “Rough” once then about 30 seconds latter another “Rough”
I’ve heard of bird dogs getting ripped up when they corner them during the game bird season.

Year but fun! They run around like bad little school boys:XD:
Was trying to get a bead on a good buck that was chasing a doe around a tree with three other bucks. Man I got dizzy following that through the scope gave up in the end, just sat back and watched...they ran off and had there gang bang in the bushes near by.
Took a lesser buck that came back looking like he’d not gotten any cream:XD:
Gave him to a neighbor :thumbsup:

That's one evil looking deer! 🙂

I've shot boars with smaller tusks than him and not as sharp !

Nice little munty. I had some pretty cool encounters with them in the woods when I was living there - never got the chance to shoot one. Did you use shooting sticks?

Yeah, off sticks. Did sit in a high seat for a bit. Was fun watching squirrels but got him during a walk-around.

You can't say Muntjac without saying mmmm...primo feed...bitch to skin...
