    Kaipo river

    Hi,
Thinking of going in through poronui tomorrow. Wondering how crossing the kaipo will go. I see there's 30odd mm of rain forecast.
    Alternative be clements road.
    Cheers

Better alternative for the weather would be the Te Iringa. Lots of hunting on the way in but also gives you the swingbridge over the kaipo.

Yes, I will sidle along the hill if I don't like the look of it. Hope the wind dries the bush out a bit so I'm not stuck with 'the drip'

Had a 100mm in last three days out of Taupo. You could ring HeliSika and ask how high rivers are.

Really enjoy the Poronui walk in. Pretty amazing scenery. Mates are walking in right now. Hope they packed PVC rain gear for the weekend

Great walk if you leave early morning. Last time I walked through I saw 50+ sika. Makes the walk a bit more interesting

if you go Oamaru doc hut- and the Kaipo river is massive- dont cross it- head north and hunt the bush that runs north south -Kaipo river to the west and Poronui station/Eucalyptis to the east- long as you stay in the native you're in public land. The deers switch from native to Eucaliptis often- and are prolly getting fatter by the minute.

Imagine the new deer fence will be putting pay to that and the heavy duty culling going on along the native boundary.
