Kaweka Fire
I'm hearing there is a big fire up the Mohaka end of the Kawekas. Face Book has warnings not to try go up to Maungatarutu as the area around Te Puia is affected. Smoke is even over to Puketitiri. Possibly the Te Matai side of the Mohaka?
Anyone hear anything better than FB. Often a 50:50 shot with the facts.

Yeah a bit of a worry. Must be fairly large as there's a fair smoke haze in sky over Napier.

You know anyone that's been fishing the Ripiha this weekend @kiwijames?

Saying it's in a forest in the Ripia area off SH5, hopefully it doesn't make it too the forest Park.

I came out at Te Puia / Mangatutu springs this afternoon and could see the smoke starting well North of the Mohaka and East of the park boundary. No worries going in to Mangaturutu or Makino. Saw several water tanker trucks and two trailers of helicopter fuel heading in along Pakaututu Rd about 15:30.
It's all tinder dry up around there with lots of dried out wind/snowfall branches on the ground. There are a lot of campers but no one's using open fires - its all gas cookers.

Yeah I believe my. Crew are getting deployed again.
