I was in there over the weekend. Heard plenty of Hee Haws and a few single calls. Didn't manage to get onto anything in the bush (still lots of snow damage making moving around hard) but somehow missed a hind on a clay pan at first light. Had a guy come past me and shoot a 6pt stag on the same clay pan the next morning - He beat me to the lookout by 5 mins (bastard).

Yea snow damage and damage from the cyclone is terrible makes for very hard stalking . You weren't camped at kiwi saddle area were you . Ran in to a surfer looking dude at lakes car park with a six pointer . Interesting head it had tops and no brow tines still cool though . Good on him for getting his first Sika.

Nah wasn't me. I was back towards kaweka flats. The guy who shot the 6 by me shoots a lot of deer by the sounds of it

Oh yea I was under the impression that the 6 pointer must have been the same deer because they are few and far between in the Kawekas haha we have a theory there are speakers in the trees that make roaring sounds . I've been into Kawekas 5 times and still yet to see a deer . Still love the place though

Plenty of noise going on. Brought this guy home as nothing better showed up.

There is plenty in there some living very close to high traffic areas.

Time to slow down and make less noise, then you'll start to see them.

They will stand still and watch you walk on by if your moving too fast.

    Cheers

I have seen many many deer between the car park and bridge when walking in to middle hill, mostly at night but also during the day.
