Kaweka Walk Times - Makino to Poronui

    Gday all.
I'm after advice from those Kaweka regulars about walk times between a couple of posies I haven't done before or haven't been to in a very long time.
I'm planning a mad dash mission from Makino carpark through to Poronui in the next couple months once temps drop a bit but before it gets really cold. It will be a run with a mate and the dog, no rifles and hope to do it in 12-15 hours ish but there are a couple sections I am curious about. So, what is a reliable 'fast' walk time between Makino hut and Mangatarutu Hut? Same for Te-puke down to Harkness and then same for Boyd to Oamaru. The rest I have done in recent memory and am comfortable with how long I think they will take.

    Thanks in advance all.

    Josh

You should be able to get from makino to Poronui in 15 hr ok at at a quick walk. No need to run.

Good idea to research the route beforehand. It’s ideal if one of you has done each section of the route within memory. The key thing is not speeed on foot but navigation, going the right way at track junctions , specially as you leave each hut clearing. Don’t take too much food; carry no water except in case makino hut tank is dry; wear trail running shoes if you use them normally. Take some lube for your goolies.

Seeing as it is obviously not a sight seeing trip why so not run it in the dark, be much cooler and one set of batteries would be enough for a head lamp...wont need clothes either as you wont meet anyone.

You'd better add ample lashing of Dimp or Bushman's Friend if you go with this option.

I looked at tussock hut to poronui as we flew in a few years back and had to be back in Auckland on a very strict schedule so incase it was too shitty to fly I worked it out around the 15-17hr mark based on DOC times. Wouldn't be too much longer for for you I would have thought
