Thread: Knife Belt or no knife belt?

I have always worn a knife, ammo pouch and a few extras on a belt when hunting. I have a couple of mates that keep it all in their day packs and if a belt is used its only to keep their pants on and this seems to extend to other hunters I have met. I noticed in another thread about PLBs best kept on the waist, so you will not become separated from it in the event of a mishap, which makes absolute sense.

Is there a change in trend with the new age hunter? Who still bucks the trend a wears their knife on the hip?

Always done it that way for last 30 years
The less things to catch on the bush as I grovel through, the better.
Depends on the terrain you hunt, I suppose.

I wear all that stuff on my bino bivvy straps (Alaska Guide Creations) knife on the straps and plb and other bits and bobs in the bivvy side pockets

i'm new to hunting and for my first few hunts I carried a foldable knife in a pocket of my daypack that was easily accessible. Over Christmas though I got a fixed blade for the purpose of wearing it on my belt, along with a small-ish pouch to carry a few emergency bits n pieces, couple of spare ammo etc. I haven't used the new way yet, but take @Frogfeatures point re getting caught up in bush...

Depends on the trip, I will usually carry it all in the pack often with a belt thrown in. If I'm expecting to use my knife/torch/gps I'll set my belt up. Having a pouch threaded onto the belt stops gear ending up in a pile at the bottom of the pack as well

Knife, plb and a bit of ammo and sundry trinkets on my belt. That way I don't have to wear my day pack on my back all of the time, or go back for it etc. And if I have to deal to a deer quickly its a bugger having to get a knife out of your pack. Lastly, I always turn my kills down hill and stick them to bleed them right out so its handy just being able to grab my knife off my belt. A lot less pissing around.

It won't get caught in the bush if you push the knife and pouch to behind your hips or wear a swanny or a top/shirt over the top and not tucked in.

Unless you need to stick a pig in a hurry, or want to look like Rambo, it probably doesn’t need to be hanging off your belt.

I rather prefer both.

I use a hunters belt from Twin Needle
Think a review was done in guns and hunting recently for some photos etc
I have plb, knife, water, radio, and a pouch with some food, first aid etc in it
That’s my walk around kit

I always have a folding knife in my pocket and a backup in my pack.

PLB on string round neck, They are small enough now. Belts and Packs can get ripped off in fall.
I carry knife in daypack but taken to carrying a folding knife on my belt so if I need something now I have one without looking thru pack

I use a stone creek bum bag...
Can fit all I need for a quick walk and doesn't get in the way when I carry out, just turn it to the front or hand off deer leg.

I always carry mine in my pack/day bag after I flew a guy out of the hills after he slipped up and slid down a bank. Knife come out of a good molded sheath on his hip and he slid down it. It wasn't pretty.

I have dropped my pack to stalk in on animals and regretted not being able to stick and bleed them while the heart is still pumping but seeing that fellas leg put me off ever wearing one on a belt again.
I am clumsy enough in the bush and I have had a knife or 2 come out on me with no harm done.
One expensive one I lost.
