Lots of restricted area on both sides of the road.
If youre driving all the way from Auckland there are much more productive places to drive to in the same time frame
As am I..
Few different tracks head off the road to Okataina
This is about 35 mins from my place and even i dont bother with it unless im keen for an avo walk. They are there (deer) but the blody woblies are always scratching round and make it hard because you spend your day sneeking up on another "fulse alarm".
It is nice country to wander around in tho.
The best areas i have found are to walk from the boat ramp at Okatina round to the other side of the lake and head up hill from between the two lakes.
I used to live not far from it 2SK, never bothered either. Much more productive places to be. And if your looking for spot Xs sorry, I was referring to the old favourites everyone know about.
Would you be better to boat down the lake and go from there? And catch a slimey on the way?
