We're heading up the Wairau Valley tomorrow for some R&R and wondering if the Leatham Valley area would be worth a look for my first look at something. Anyone know if there is a lot of foot traffic in the area at this time of year.

theres are few animals about but spotlighters thrash it
Got 2 pigs an a deer up there Wednesday an never got to boulder creek. . . . . . .river very low an nice an warm easy to get over it an good for a swim to.
Thanks Abe, found those places on the map and google earth. Will check them out. Be a good test of the buggered leg. Now which gadgette would like to come.
Went up boulder creek today, was already someone staying at the hut, had a good look around, did a fair walk, little sign where we were, got a couple of goats, another ute went up the road while we were there, and know someone going to end and staying for the weekend, animals around if you in the right place at the right time, heard doc were going to check spotlighters this summer up there, hope so
Thanks deer243. Will certainly be taking a rifle for a walk; have never been in there before, but can see that changing shortly.
Rushy, I wouldn't trust the buggers. Likely all I'd drag out at the other end would be bones. Hopeless vegetarians the lot on 'em.
We're nearly ready. :XD:
Some of us have been ready since early yesterday morning. Some still getting there .......
Indeed! Oh well we made it, unpacked and eaten. Might have to sort some big eared critters in the morning. Got three eager young gadgettes lined up to come for a wander. No one too keen on the Leatham, might do a wee overnighter on my Todd. Packed a tent and cooker.
Yep go for a look gadget. Can't get em on the couch.(unless your sneeze or rushy :D)

WJust about ger a deer from the house. Have been in the grain crop a few paddocks away. And someone just about collected one on the highway.
He's entered banjo country :yarr:
This phone has a small keyboard for these fat fingers. The eyes don't seem to work as well as they used to either. Now hand me a jar of that moonshine and try keep up with this fiddle. Looks like tomorrow will be the best chance weather wise.
Found out that the choppers have hammered the top end, deer took a hammering, bastards.. wonder if thats all they did, might explain why no sign of a deer where we were, should of been
True but unless all us humans are wiped out its never going to happen.
True Vc, far better than green rain, still a pain in the arse thou lol.
Ended up fixing too much broken farm gear and ran out of daylight to get organized to visit the Leatham on Tuesday. Wednesday night heavy rain and rivers likely to be in flood. :TT TT:
Maybe Friday/Saturday, I'm determined to get there.
Might be ok friday, im going for a look, deceided to go bush stalking instead thou, more chance i shoot one, out of venison
Managed to get away for a couple of hours for a look at least. Not sure what the water is usually like but it was milky, flowing reasonably rapidly and I could hear the odd rock rolling about. Drove up as far as Boulder Creek where there was another vehicle parked up so just had a smooch around the rivers and streams and pointed the binoculars round some on the hills and clearings. Saw some evidence of others success in the car park, with some pig fur and bones.
Will be going back there. A nice wee valley.
Pigs have hair GM.
My old welder lives up there now, essential equipment really. The thing weighs as much as I do. Was very handy when the round bale feeder was nursed back with 5mm of twisted weld connecting it to the tractor. Fair few other bits of machinery could do with attention.
