Lepus Leicas and a CZ
Cloud cover always eases the pain of clambering around hills, this day was no exception. The humble .22 in one hand accompanied a slowing of the step as ideal surroundings found, lush grass and protective blackberry ideal for the wary Rabbit.

Finding a suitable "360 knob" ensured a target rich environment could be scanned with the binos.

The first stir fry donor succumbed to a winchester 42g sub at approx 90yrds.

Flipping over a few more quietened the place down, orders to make this a search and destroy mission had me move on
Safely through a fence

I thumped them in the flatter open

Through another fence

Thumped them in the steep shitty

Stopping for a scan of another area showed a stretched out bunny having a snooze by the fence

Just as his insides became his outsides the sun popped out

A few more valleys and the stirfry collection was looking great, then a wee trophy popped up
Steeply downhill at 90yrds was a half grown albino bunny, settling in behind the CZ i could clearly see him flip over as a soft thump drifted back

Destined for the freezer i will show him to the taxidermist to see if he's suitable.
Covering more ground had the CZ in its element, subs and the 5 baffle DPT adding the stealth to my ninja efforts :)
As the light faded my headlamp allowed a return to the ute, its hard not to appreciate the humble .22
-
the good old .22 is good when you have a good location.
I had a few like this not too long ago but change in managers / owners ment its no longer an option.
-
Those 42 gr subs hit with authority.
If such a thing is possible for a 22.

Subs have a larger projectile with a bigger hollow point and softer lead. Much better kills than supersonic in my experiance.
-
Cheers, enjoyed that !
I had a similar Sunday afternoon myself.
-
That is a dam nice looking spot to shoot some rabbits
-
Autumn can be seriously productive for bunny hunting, anyone spending more time chasing them at this time of the year ?
-
Damn I wish I had a similar spot near home!

Lepus Leicas and a CZ
A relaxing afternoon chasing Rabbits seemed like a great idea, taking a .223 suits short and long range " targets"

I spent most of the afternoon above the scrubline using elevation to my advantage
http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...c4595acf1d.jpg
Was nice to see animals out, about 4 black rabbits and 12 normal ones
In one small valley a shape caught my eye, a small black shape, one with two ears and a head.
Really too small to do anything with I thought what better way to test ninja skills that I don't actually have :) and slid down the dry hillside on my stomach to see if I could get some good pics with the cellphone
I did not have to wait too long and with the innocence of youth they couldn't resist.....
Patience patience

Then the rest

It was quite relaxing being so close and filming them and I can see why people keep them as pets
Im pleased we have them in NZ, -and certainly for me they have been responsible for many enjoyable afternoon hunts through the years, long live the humble bunny !!
-
Cool Pic's, they are a great little animal, kept me employed for 31 years.
-
Going for a stroll with a .22 on a sunny Spring morning is one of the things I miss about New Zealand.
-
Awesome, god I miss the farm.
