Looking over some more North Canterbury land
So towards the start of summer I decided to check out some new land a little further from the Lewis Pass. Having done a bit of research I found a pretty decent looking area quite close to a Doc track that by the sounds gets quite a bit of attention. Going mid week I was hopeful it would be quiet. Not to be unfortunately. There were a number of vehicles parked up at the start of the track. The majority were probably trampers but didn't want to take the risk. There was another nice looking piece of country on the map not far from my 1st choice so decided to head there instead.
It was quite a hot afternoon so started by checking out the cooler looking country. Later in the afternoon my spirits were lifted by finding some fresh sign in the creek area. I sat it out for quite some time before deciding to head back to the vehicle hoping I may run into something on the way back. Unfortunately it wasn't to be. Interestingly I located a 'homemade' walking track with freshly cut branches that led to a track with 4 wheeler tracks. I have a feeling a local may use it as a handy access, especially if they're lucky enough to get something. It was a nice walk in the hills and great for the fitness. I will definitely be having another look there in the future.
