    Luck and a CZ

Lovely hot day today as there was not a breath of wind or a cloud in the sky.

    Surely good enough to hunt

As the ute idled around the outside of the orchard i scanned for the easy ones from the window.

Shaded on the west side i spotted a rabbit near the shelter belt, slipping from the seat i used what cover i had and measured the distance

Easing the trigger i saw him lurch sideways and lay still

    Luck

Locking the ute i carefully made my way to the centre of the orchard, my plan to be able to shoot 360 degrees, new trees going in the ground tomorrow just don't need their bark chewed !!

As the shadows drew out i welcomed a diversion landing in an open paddock to my south west, they settled 121 safe yards away.

I ranged them and set up with as firm a rifle rest as i could .

A soft click drifted back signalling a hit

    In the eye

    Luck

Concentrating my scanning efforts in the lusher grass

Surrounded by the days warmth and heavy apple blossom scent allowed the afternoon to drift by easily, patience here would reward surely

Small birds came and went and the quail made an appearance or two, then with the care only age can bring a Hare slunk into view, very aware that he wasn't alone.

He loped along using the tree trunk line as cover, swivelling on the bipod i kept him in sight and flicked the safety off.

Lifting my head to get a visual on his range stopped him, i had been sprung, it was now or never

A tip of the ear aim and he soaked up the 42g sub, our new trees would be safe

    Luck

Needing to be home before dinner or i would get my ears burnt i collected him and made my way back to the ute.

    Sun warming the CZ

Twas a bad day to be a Hare.
