Mate. Honestly take the graf video with a pinch of salt. A lot of what's expressed in there is opinion and and misinformation. 1080 has been used since the 50's and with much less consideration to safety than it is now. If it was going to find it's way into the food chain it would have by now. Not to mention the fact that 1080 is naturally occurring and present in most tea.

There are plenty of sound arguments for reform around the application of 1080, but if we don't stick to scientifically valid points, you just get lumped in with the crazies and ignored

1080 is NOT a naturally occurring compound and it certainly does NOT exist in tea. @Nick-D, you talk about correct science but you have no idea yourself. 1080 is sodium monofluoroacetate, a manufactured compound. The misinformation drivelled by the twig and tweeters is deliberately misleading. There does exist in certain plants in Australia and Africa a compound named potassium fluoroacetate which has a very bitter taste and has evolved as a protection from browsing animals. This also occurs in tea in extremely minute quantities. I can well remember the noisey spokesman for Twig and Tweet expousing to school children that 1080 breaks down to harmless salt and vinegar. This is the sort of crap talk used to denigrate people like the Grafs and others who are at least providing a far more practical view of actual events than either DoC or Twig and Tweet or the government has ever done with regard to the effects of 1080. Obviously the Grafs (and me). know a darned sight more about the science behind 1080 than you do.

Yeah well aware of the synthetic nature of sodium fluroacetate and it minor differences to potassium fluroacetate thanks.

Point being we don't have to rely on Doc or forest and bird Or Clyde Graf or any other party with significant interest or bias. There is a tonne of credible scientific information out there to base your views on. Make your own kind up but basing your entire argument on a emotive and anecdotal video by an ex con conspiracy theorist doesn't get us anywhere. Show me a credible peer review study that backs up about any of grafs claims and I'll happily change my mind. I'm not married to my ideas

For the record I would prefer we phase 1080 out in favour of more specific methods. I realise that this is a difficult and expensive idea too.

I also take issue with the idea that doc and forest and bird are implicit in the purposfull destruction and damage of our endemic ecosystems. They might be full of shit at times but the people in there doing the dirty work are genuinely interested in protecting nz's bio diversity.

Yes, you are fortunate to have this benifit.
    Take a look at

Yeah ok mate. All those low paid researchers and biologists are wantonly sabotaging out native wildlife to keep their 40k salaries.

Mate im short handing on a phone. Point being it's a similar toxin that occurs naturally in food. And people aren't carking it left right and center.

There is no evidence that 1080 is entering the food chain in significant or dangerous amounts. There is real evidence suggesting that even small levels of toxin can be very detrimental to fetal development.
That's what I'm saying. Making bold emotionally driven unsubstantiated claims like the grafs do is pointless when there is data around that has real basis in fact and can be argued effectively. To be fair to them the grafs do include some relevent points but it's so interwoven with opinion, emotion and anecdotal evidence it is easily discredited.

The website you linked above is a good source of information but unfortunately has no study of their own and only offer a commentary using extracts from other studies. His major argument is there it enough long term scientific data to extrapolate real hypothesis. This isnt a definitive data point either way.

My intention wasn't to start a pissing contest, because like I said im in favour of phasing 1080 out for more specific controls. I'm just trying to encourage people to look at data from both sides of the argument and make a reasoned decision based on data and not a pr piece

Nothing deliberate about it mate. Typed in shorthand at the lights. But if calling me names makes you feel better fire away.

If it's good enough for Molesworth's deer to have " stay of execution" isn't it good enough for all deer in drop areas to have the same consideration.
